Virgin Orbit’s first space launch outside of the US failed yesterday. I heard their spokesperson being interviewed this morning, and he commented that it’s actually a good thing in the long run, because so much is learnt when you “fail”.
Few pursuits succeed unless you stick with them. It matters little whether you’re quitting smoking, loosing weight, launching a business, building a relationship or launching a satellite into space.
Aside from the right approach, ability and motivation, one of the most critical success factors is sticking with it.
Obvious, right?
Well, yeah – but too often people expect a quick fix, a short cut or fast track. Or, they expect everything to be plain sailing, with no hiccups, set-backs or obstacles.
Sure, you can get lucky sometimes, but don’t rely on this. Expect all of the above and remind yourself why you’re doing it (motivation really matters, it’s your “why?”).
Just think of every inspirational story you’ve ever heard. How many of them were without setbacks? Err…precious few if not none I suspect.
Learning & growth on the journey really matter – and they’re both intensified when you hit obstacles. So rather than be thrown off course by them, really embrace them, see them as a good thing. It can make all the difference.
So why not start writing your own inspirational story today…
