Happy Mother's day

adriansummerton

This time last year my mum passed away. I could be sad today, or on the anniversary of her passing last Monday, but I'm not.

I'm sure to some that will seem odd. Losing my mum was sad. But I haven't lost her again today. Last Monday, and today and frankly most days I choose to be grateful.

I'm grateful for me having her as long as we did. I'm grateful for her love and support throughout all of my life, and I'm grateful she is now at rest. Her work was done, and done well.

I realise more now than ever before the enormity of the job that mums do. Aside from all the obvious things we regularly talk about, their legacy is huge - the legacy on their children, and how they face life, and how they are remembered is about as big a responsibility as anyone can shoulder. And in that regard I feel hugely grateful.

So to all you mothers out there, young and old, whether you feel you’re “Supermum”, or you’re struggling to do your best - I celebrate you all for your role in creating that legacy.

And to those of you who have lost your mum, you can choose how you want to think and feel today.
